This is not pyroceramic Corningware! It's a sad subsitute.
The original "French White" Corningware was made of their famous pyroceramic glass, which could be used on the gas stove, put directly in the freezer, put under the broiler right from the freezer, and oh yes, also used in a microwave. And it was very unlikely to shatter if dropped. If you pounded on it with a hammer and nail you might have gotten it to break.

When World Kitchens bought the license from Corning, they decided to halt production of a line of cookware that would take anything and last forever, and dupe customers, especially brides, into thinking the stoneware "French White" was the same thing as the wonderful French White pyroceramic cookware previously available.

The pattern is attractive and can be used with any decor, but this stuff is not, repeat, really not, what people mean when they say "Corningware."

Le Creuset can do most of the above mentioned, but it being metal you cannot use it in the microwave. Stoneware cannot go on top of...

CorningWare made in China is worthless
I have many old original Corning Ware "Pyroceramic" casseroles that have held up very well over the years since bought in 1960s. The stuff is amazing - you can cook on the range top, oven, microwave and then serve it in the same dish, and later store it in the refrigerator or freezer. The only thing I did not like was it is a bit heavy and thick, but I guess it had to be to survive all the abuse. All things considered, I liked it very well. Over the years, I was able to expand my set, and once in a while replace a piece that broke or got stained from use on the range top (even though it doesn't break, it tends to discolor on my electric range top, so I stopped doing that).

Fast forward 50 years. Corning licenses its trademark to World Kitchen, and they decide to cut corners and make a poor copy of so called CorningWare in China (the new trademark is one word, italics). This new stuff is not at all the same. It is poorly made stoneware, heavy, crude with a bumpy...
Looks are a little deceiving
I love using the two large casserole dishes but I don't have much use for the smaller ones which are much smaller than I expected them to be. The smaller ones are not only small but are very shallow: maybe 1 inch or so deep.

CorningWare French White 5-Piece Serving Bake and Serve Set
Corningware French White 5-piece serving set. Includes 1-each 1-1/2-quart round covered dish, 1-each 2-1/2-quart oval covered dish, 1-each serving cradle. The recipe for a great dish starts, surprisingly, with a great dish! Corningware French White bakeware proves that when it comes to food preparation, few things are more convenient than baking and serving in one dish. With its classic, fluted design, French White oven-to-table bakeware imparts a traditional elegance that is a perfect complement to any décor. Versatile yet stylish, Corningware French White is simple, from start to finish!Home cooks who remember CorningWare from the 1950s should know that this bakeware is not old-fashioned--on the contrary, it is just as useful and convenient today as it was when their mothers first started using it. The French White series of bakeware has an updated fluted exterior and is a versatile vanilla white color that matches any dinnerware and kitchen décor.

This serving set includes two baking dishes that are sure to become staples for family meals. The 2-1/2-quart oval dish measures 11 inches long, 8-1/4 inches wide, and has high 2-1/2-inch sides that make it ideal for baking and serving savory bread puddings and lasagnas. The 1-1/2-quart round dish has a 7-inch diameter and is an appropriate shape for making a shepherd's pie or side-dish casserole. Each dish is fitted with a durable Pyrex glass cover that seals in moisture while allowing cooks to keep an eye on their meal as it bakes. In addition, the larger dish comes with a metal cradle that makes it easier to lift and carry heavy casseroles from oven to table.

Made of nonporous stoneware, these dishes won't stain or absorb flavors or odors. Additionally, the dishes and their lids are safe for the dishwasher and can move among the oven, microwave, refrigerator, and freezer without experiencing any cracking due to temperature changes. CorningWare provides a one-year limited warranty on the stoneware dishes and a two-year limited warranty on the glass covers. --Cristina Vaamonde

Amazon reviewer, this is not 1950s-90s Corningware! It's only stoneware.
"Your mother's" Corningware was not this stuff. This is only stoneware from China.

Keep looking for the original Corningware
The review above is so right. I made the mistake of putting this on a stove top and it cracked. The separate metal handle is also pretty stupid - awkward to use and store. Try fitting a hot casserole into it while you have oven mitts on. The good news is I recently went to a Corningware outlet store and they had a set of stove-top/oven/freezer/microwave casseroles - like the one I used to have. Not cheap but it's made in France. I haven't used it yet, but it seems like it's being reintroduced.
Great price
I have already used this product for green bean casserole for the holidays. It's great and made it to me quickly.

Trading on the Corning name
I would give this product zero stars if I could.

For those who are not familiar with the original U.S.-made glass/ceramic Corning Ware, this cheaply made substitute may seem like a good deal. For those of us who still have pieces of the original Corning Ware, this product is a horrible substitute.

World Kitchen bought the brand in the late 1990's, promptly "redesigned" the product, and shipped manufacturing overseas. WK is trading on the reputation of Corning Ware while offering a product that bears no resemblance to the original in versatility or durability.

I'm switching over to Pyrex. It is an excellent product and manufacturing is still done in the U.S.
Calling it Corningware is a crockery
From it's inception in the late 50s until Corning, Inc. sold its kitchenware division, Corningware meant pyroceram. Originally used for rocket nose cones, Pyroceram was, and is, something of a miracle material. It is not only heat resistent, like pyrex, but also resistent to huge changes in temperature (you can take it from the freezer and put it on the stove without fear of breakage.) This is just crockery, which is why so many reviewers have complained that pieces arrived broken. In contrast, real pyroceram Corningware was virtually indestructable. I understand that you can get real pyroceram on ebay. Also, check out yard sales. I understand it is still sold new in Asia. What a shame that this wonderful product has been replaced by an inferior imposter.

Lids are ill-fitting
We've had ORIGINAL Corning French White items for over 30 years and these have stood the test of time. These aren't those. This 'Corning' is actually just the purchased/leased trademark that World Kitchens is using (Jarden has done this with Sunbeam, etc, I believe) to ride on the coattails of the original Corning Glass Works quality reputation. These have the rubber/plastic covers, too, but the cover for the larger casserole is NOT sized properly to fit 'airtight' for effective containment. It is off measure by about 1/8th inch in the diameter - too big. This is also the same problem with the duplicate set I purchased. Also with the 7oz ramekin pair sold by Amazon, too. See that review, too. Not worth the money, unless you don't care about using the rubber/plastic covers. We're looking into Pyrex products for better satisfaction for our needs. Maybe Amazon should drop this company's products to avoid disappointing its customers?
Disappointed
I was disappointed in the quality of this Corningware set. It was made in China and does not compare with my old Corningware that was made in the USA

Perfect For This New Englander...Soups On
I have had this set and individual pieces associated with this set for quite some time and I love it. I'm someone who brings my lunch with me to work daily and absolutely love the ease of these products. The sizes are just right for an entree and one or two sides. I use the mugs for chili and soups, the bowls for entrees, french onion soup, pumpkin pudding and a laundry list of things in between. Just last night I made chicken pot pies. Baked, frozen and later on today they'll be microwaved. Perfect for those who enjoy cooking, enjoying leftovers, bringing lunch to work and easy clean up. Staining and retaining odors does not happen with these, as it can with other storage products. They certainly win hands down over plasticware with regard to its versatility.

Love the product, It just make good food that much easier.
The cups a great for soups and other dining liquids. The bowls are Great also. I take care of my 82 year old grandmother & she just love how she can take a can of soup and poor it into the cup, cook it in the microwave then what she does not finish she can up the lid on and put it in the refrigerator. When she wants it again just take out of the frig. and put it directly in the microwave. Clean up is good also only on problem with them and that would be the lids. After a little time the plastic exsorbet a red tint from tomato based products. Other then this I'm buying them for all my friends as Christmas presents.
These are great!
These are great. The mugs hold an entire can of soup. The lids keep the contents inside and keep the microwave splatter-free. They are a handy size for storing and heating leftovers or lunch and go from refrigerator to microwave without any problems.
